Der musikalische Reichtum Jamaikas ist einfach unglaublich. Ein Großteil dessen lässt sich auf das Wirken von Clement Sir Coxsone” Dodd zurückführen. Dass dieser bereits vor der Gründung seines legendären Studio One im Jahr 1963 außerordentlich aktiv war, wissen wir spätestens seit der atemberaubenden Zusammenstellung “Coxsones Music” von 2015.

Nun liegt deren Nachfolgerin vor. Am Konzept hat sich nichts geändert. Die Kompilation führt in die Zeit zurück, als Clement Dodd Ende der 1950er, Anfang der Sechziger talentierten Nachwuchs unter seine Fittiche nahm und mit diesem Prä-Reggae-Stücke produzierte.

Die frisch geschnittenen Dubplates testete er direkt im Anschluss mit seinem Downbeat Sound System in den Dancehalls Kingstons. Was gut ankam, wurde auf Vinyl gepresst und war in der Regel kommerziell erfolgreich. Eine grandiose Auswahl dessen findet sich auf “Coxsones Music 2”. Die Bandbreite reicht von Rhythm & Blues über Jazz und Gospel bis zu Proto-Ska und Rasta-Musik. Zu den vertretenen Künstlern gehören Roland Alphonso, Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Toots and The Maytals, Bob Marley and The Wailers, Delroy Wilson und Owen Gray.
